Find Homes for Sale by the U. S. Government

By: Brian Kelly

HomeSales.gov consists of a portal designed to provide information to the public regarding properties owned by the government for public sale.  The properties are located throughout the United States including our Commonwealths and Territories in the Pacific and the Caribbean.  The website is an example of inter-Departmental cooperation and was developed as a joint project led by the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD), developed by the USDA, and confirmed by the Department of Veteran Affairs (VA).  The portal design was designed at the request of the Office of Management and Budget (OMB) and under the supervision and coordination of the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD).

HUD is the largest provider of government backed guarantees to commercial lenders.  As a result, the mortgage industry receives stability as its risk of loss is minimized.  This allows families throughout the US the opportunity to own homes when lenders may not otherwise be willing to extend credit.  HUD has a portfolio of over 32,170 guaranteed homes valued at $2,530,548,291.  For more information regarding HUD and our programs, please visit the web site at www.HUD.gov.
