When you are getting help with foreclosure and are trying to get help to avoid foreclosure, be aware of scams out there. Most foreclosure help is free. The government agencies offer free help. If someone contacted you to offer their services or advices for a fee, do not accept. At least read all the fine prints before you sign anything. There are a few tips that help you spot a scam:
- Beware of anyone who asks you to pay a fee in exchange for a counseling service or modification of a delinquent loan.
- Scam artists often target homeowners who are struggling to meet their mortgage commitment or are anxious to sell their homes. Recognize and avoid common scams.
- Never transfer your deed to anyone. Not even your family members. Not to any organizations.
Help is out there and most of them come free. If you see ads that promise saving your home and avoid foreclosure for a fee, talk to some non profit agencies first. Most of them don't charge fees.
